Life

Born in Southern Germany, growing up, expressing through the body and voice was already an emotional & physical need. The biggest admiration and euphoria she had for music and dance, whenever she could experience them happening. Lessons in Ballet, Modern Dance and Singing, began to spark and develop her creative language.

At the age of 19, she spent a year in Lima, Peru doing voluntary work and travelling to various parts of the country. She began to think in Spanish, immersing herself into their cultural environment, which later influenced her poetic expression of writing songs in Spanish, while drawing inspiration from various Peruvian and Latin American folk and Spanish Flamenco music. The experience also helped her discover a new approach to her singing, inspired by the various soulful and expressive Latin American singers she encountered, like Mercedes Sosa, Violetta Para, or Victor Jarra, a.o..

Upon her return to Germany, she worked at the renowned Theater Die Färbe, where she was cast in various roles in numerous plays. In 2011, she moved to Berlin, finding her way into the art scene, while deciding which artistic path to choose. She trained herself and experimented with dance, started creating short dance pieces, writing poems and took singing lessons.

In 2013, she finished her diploma as a professional contemporary dancer at danceacademy balance 1 Berlin, and soon after took part in a musical theater piece called “Yusuf’s” directed by Haitham Tantawy, whose work was inspired by the polish music theatre company "song of th goat", where her choreographic, dancing, acting and singing abilities were showcased. Since then, she has been part of Berlin's independent theater and dance scene, creating her own plays, dancing and developing choreographies, singing and acting in various productions.

Alaz Niu was in the middle of founding her own interdisciplinary dance company (with musicians and actors), when the lockdowns hit in 2020. Music rose to prominence at that point in her life and she began experimenting with composing songs while finding her language in music. Since then, she dedicated her time to studying Piano and singing with Franziska Bopp, Lily Dahab, as well as learning music theory with Pablo Inderhees. She taught herself music production by listening and reflecting on a lot of music and on her own songs made with the DAW Studio One, later with logic pro. In the past year, she has played concerts around various venues and artistic spaces in Berlin.

Currently she is planing her next release and working on the production of her debut to be released by the end of 2025.
